Welcome to the month of October!
SNCA will be closed on Monday, October 9th for Columbus Day!
10/20- PINK OUT DAY –Bake Sale to raise money for this cause!
10/31- Halloween Celebration- Costumes are welcomed! No scary masks or face painting please. Look for party sign-up sheets in your child’s classroom!
Infants:
This month we will be working with our older infants on self-feeding, increase mobility, and free standing. Our younger infants will be working on reaching for toys and grasping for small toys. We will also be working on tummy time to strengthen our head and neck muscles.
Family Engagement: We are asking our families in our younger and older infants to bring in a family picture for our classroom.

Crawlers:
This month we will be working on fine motor development as the children work on developing small muscle control, strength and coordination. We will also focus on social and emotional development as the children work on developing an awareness of themselves as an individual with unique thoughts, feelings, and perspectives.
Family Engagement: On October 4th, we will be having a Welcome Breakfast! Please see sign-up sheet on our classroom refrigerator.
Classroom Special Events: We will be pumpkin painting this month! Please bring in a small pumpkin for your child to paint in class!!

Young Toddlers:
This month we will focus on social and emotional development as the children engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children and work on saying their friend’s names. We will also continue to work on the ability to control impulses and sit in a circle time with their friends.
Family Engagement: This month we will be sending home a pumpkin for you to decorate with your child. Please send it back in for us to display in our classroom!

Older Toddlers:
This month we will focus on social and emotional development as the children work on developing the ability to express and regulate their own emotions. We will also focus on science as we explore the changing of the seasons and learning about the characteristics of living, non-living, man-made and naturally occurring.
Family Engagement: Family Autumn Scavenger- We will be sending home a list of items for you to find and use to make a collage for us to display in our classroom!

3’s Preschool:
This month we will continue to work on Literacy by exploring a variety of writing tools and proper grip. We will also work more on letter recognition with the alphabet as well as in their own name. We will work on physical health and motor development as it relates to safety by recognizing and identifying to safety by recognizing and identifying unsafe situations and objects and fire safety. We will learn what to do in case of a fire and what 911 is.
Family Engagement: Families will be sent home with a fall scavenger hunt list to return. These will be discussed during meeting times and displayed around the class.
Classroom Special Events: Halloween Party- Look for sign-up sheet!
4’s Pre-K:
This month we will be focusing on science skills. We will be learning about the environmental changes that come with our new season, fall. We will also be learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin and investigating whether or not pumpkins float or sink in water. The children will learn to plan for and carry out these investigations and to collect, evaluate and communicate the information they learn. They will be exploring the characteristics of leaves and pumpkins and record their findings.
Family Engagement: This month we will be doing a math activity for our family engagement activity. Please watch for a favorite Halloween Candy Poll. It will be sent home the week of October 16th. We will be compiling the results as a class.

K-Prep:
This month we will focus on health and safety practices. The children will become increasingly able to identify unsafe situations and gradually learn strategies for responding to them. We will also focus on social and emotional development as the children work on self-regulation and the ability to control impulses during circle time and free play.
Family Engagement: This month we will be learning about fire safety. Make a fire escape plan with your family at home. Talk about it together and practice your plan.
Classroom Special Events: 10/4- Apple Picking Field Trip. 10/9- No School. 10/18- Fire Truck Visit. 10/20- Pink Out Day. 10/24- Fiddle N’ Fun. 10/31- Halloween Party.
