Welcome to the month of October!!

 

Special Notices:

 

This month is filled with fun and exciting activities.

 

The East Greenwich Fire Dept. will be here on Thursday, Oct. 4th for the children in young toddlers through Kindergarten. The children will be able to climb on the truck and learn about fire safety.

 

We will be closed on Monday, October 8th for Columbus day.

 

On Thursday October 18, the children in pre-k, K-prep and Kindergarten will be going on a pumpkin picking field trip to Confreda farms in Cranston. Chaperones are asked to meet them at the farm.  The bus will pick up the children here at 9:30 and returning in time for their lunch.  If your child is able to attend, please bring in the permission slip.

 

Friday, October 19th will be our pink day.  All the children and staff are encouraged to dress in pink for National Breast cancer Awareness.  The children will be having a back sale and a lemonade stand to help raise money for this good cause.

 

Every class will be celebrating Halloween on Wednesday, Oct. 31.  Some classrooms are doing pajama parties and some are doing costumes.  For the classrooms that are doing costumes, please have your child come in dressed in their costume.  Please make sure that no scary masks, swords or weapons of any kind are brought in to school.  The children will be changing out of their costumes right before lunch.  Please make sure your child has clothes to change into that day.  The teachers will also be dressed in costumes and you will be able to vote on best costume on our Facebook page.

 

 

 

Infants:

This month we will focus on social and emotional development. Children develop trust in and engage positively with adults who are familiar and consistently present in children’s lives.  We will also encourage this by keeping each child’s structured routine, giving each child as much one-on-one as possible and showing the children their family pictures.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Please decorate a pumpkin or candy corn that will be provided with your child and return it back to us to help decorate our family board.

 

Classroom Special Events:  We will be having a special Halloween party. Children can wear their costumes and look for a food sign up sheet for the older infants. Oct. 19th Pink day, wear pink.

Crawlers:

This month we will be working on phonological awareness- children notice and discriminate the sounds of spoken words. We will do this by asking them to say simple words, repeating after us.  (Print knowledge- children demonstrate book awareness and knowledge of basic print conventions. They understand that print carries meaning and spoken words are represented by text.) We will also continue to read books daily and ask them questions regarding what they are seeing.

 

Family Engagement Activity: What is in a name?  Please write down or type,  where your child’s name came from (example: named after a family member) or how you came up with your child’s name.

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween pajama party, Weds. Oct. 31. Come in your pajamas. Please bring shoes for outside play.  Pink day, Oct. 19th. Please wear pink.

 

Happy 1st Birthday to Otis on 10/3 and Ira on 10/6!!!!  We love you!!!

 

 

Young Toddlers:

This month we will be working on language development- (receptive language) we will demonstrate this by encouraging the children to follow different simple- directions. In expressive language- we will demonstrate this by redirecting children to use their words when they are upset or trying to express their feelings instead of screaming or crying. 

 

Family Engagement: Bring in a picture of your family doing a fall activity or carving a pumpkin.

 

Classroom Special Events: Wed. Oct.31, Halloween pajama party!! Wear your pajamas to school but still bring in your shoes for outside play.  Please look for a sign up sheet for the party.  Wear pink on our pink day, Oct. 19.

Older Toddlers:

This month we will work on social and emotional development – relationships with others.  We will encourage the children to engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children. We will work on playing nicely with friends, learning to take turns and sharing.  In literacy- we will work on alphabet knowledge, recognizing and identifying letters and the letter sound connections. We will be playing our alphabet board games to find the beginning letter to our names.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  As the leaves begin to fall, take a nature walk with your family and help your child find one special leaf to bring in and share with their friends.

 

Classroom Special Events: Oct. 31sr Halloween costume party!  Please leave any masks or accessories at home. Oct. 19, Pink day, please wear something pink.

 

 

3’s Preschool

This month we will be learning about fire safety. For fire safety we will focus on the following; in social studies, our class will act out and participate in fire safety drills, what to do and what to know as well as other signs to be aware of. We will also work on physical health and motor development to help children recognize or identify harmful or unsafe objects and situations.

This month we will also be focusing on the letters F,E, and H, the colors orange and brown, and the numbers 3 and 4. Our shape will be the triangle.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Each child will be sent home with a paper pumpkin to decorate with any supplies you have at home (if you need supplies, please let me know).  Please bring it back so we can display it in our classroom.

 

Classroom Engagement Activity: Fire Safety Week Oct 8-14. Pink day, Oct. 19,  Halloween costume party on Oct. 31. Keep an eye out for classroom postings as well as emails.

4’s Preschool:

 

This month we will be working on being able to identify unsafe situations and gradually learn strategies for responding to them.  In literacy, we will work on the children being able to notice and discriminate the sounds of spoken language.

 

Family Engagement Activity: This month we will be focusing on Nature, the changing of leaves and natural beauty.  More details will soon be going home on Oct. 4th. Please check your child’s folders.

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween celebration on Oct. 31. More details to follow. Pink day on Oct. 19.

Pre-K :

This month in science, we will celebrate Fall by looking at nature and being able to describe how things change. We will also be experimenting with mixing colors (primary and secondary colors).  This month is also safety month and we will be learning about fire safety and what could be considered an unsafe situation and how to stay safe during Halloween.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Nature walk. Go on a family nature walk, collect different natural items to make a fall wreath. The wreath will soon be provided. Then please take a picture of your wreath for us to post around the room. Due date soon to be posted.

 

Classroom Special Events:   Halloween costume party on Oct. 31! Come dressed in your costume. We will have a costume parade through out the center.

 

 

Kindergarten and K-Prep:

This month  the children will continue to work on upper and lowercase letters through exposure to print and letter activities. Children will also be able to count to 100 by ones and by tens through different exercises.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Pink day on Oct. 19. Let us know if you would like to bake something for the bake sale for pink day.

 

Classroom Special Events: Fire truck visit – Oct. 4, Apple tasting and pink day Oct. 19th, pumpkin picking field trip on Oct. 18 and Halloween costume party on Oct. 31!
