November Newsletter East Greenwich
Welcome to the month of October!
This month we will be observing Veteran’s day on Friday, Nov. 10. We will be closed that day. School picture day for all of the children will be on Thursday, Nov. 9th.
Picture forms have gone out. If you need a new form, please see your child’s teacher or stop by the office.
On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the Audubon Society, will be here to give an educational story about owls and they will be bringing in real owl for the children. This show will be for all of the students in young 4s through Kindergarten. Permission slips have gone out.
We will be closed on Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving and on Nov. 24 for Professional Day.
Celebrating a birthday day this month is Ms. Victoria, our floater, on Nov. 2nd and Ms. Mandy in Pre-K on Nov. 25. Happy birthday!
We would like to wish all of you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Infants:
This month infants will be focusing on social studies and science. In social studies, the children will gain an awareness of how they relate to their families and friends. We will reinforce this through their family cards and pictures. Infants will also learn to plan and carry out investigations and collect, evaluate and communicate information. For example, using pop up toys, will encourage the children to investigate what will happen next.
Classroom Special Events: This month infants will be having our very own Thanksgiving party. Please look for a classroom sign up list.

Crawlers:
his month we will continue to work on the children’s confidence by encouraging them to complete a task or action independently. For example, eating with utensils and helping pick up toys. We will also continue to encourage the children to develop trust and engage positively with adults who are familiar and consistently in their lives.
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a canned good to donate to the needy this month.
Classroom Special Events: Nov. 22 we will be having a Thanksgiving feast. Please look for our sign up list.
Toddlers:
This month we will encourage children to become increasingly able to identify unsafe situations and gradually learn strategies for responding to them. We will also continue to encourage the children to engage in positive relationships and interactions with one another.
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a picture of your family’s favorite Fall activity or Thanksgiving tradition. We will talk about each picture with the class.
Classroom Special Event: Nov. 22 we will be having a Thanksgiving celebration.

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:
This month we will encourage the children to continue developing self help skills by washing their hands properly and putting on their own coats. For social and emotional, the children will be encouraged to engage in positive relationships and interactions with the one another. They will be learning to taking turns with toys, sharing with friends, and also learn to care about each others feelings.
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in your child’s favorite Thanksgiving recipe.

3s:
This month the children will continue to work on their self help skills. Some of the things the children will be working on will be; proper hand washing, cleanliness, and covering coughs the safe way in order not to spread germs. The children will develop large muscle control, strength and coordination. We will be doing this by learning about the importance of exercise, dancing, using tunnels and other fun outdoor activities.
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in your favorite child’s recipe as we will be making a class recipe book for Thanksgiving.
Classroom Special Events: Thanksgiving party on Nov. 22, please look for a sign up sheet.
4s:
This month we will be learning about the first Thanksgiving, Pilgrims and Native Americans. The children will also be learning about what vegetables grow during harvest season and investigate the natural elements.
Family Engagement Activity: Please draw a picture of your Thanksgiving dinner and we will be making placemats.

Pre-K:
This month we will be discussing Fall harvests and celebrating the 1st Thanksgiving. We will also address our own Thanksgiving traditions and learn about similarities and differences between families and different cultures. This month we will also discuss the author Eric Carle and talk about the parts of a book and begin to understand the sequence of a story.
Family Engagement: Go on a nature walk and gather some items that represent Fall, then use those items to make a decorative wreath. Please bring them in so that we can decorate our classroom with them.
Classroom Special Events Thanksgiving Feast on 11/22.
K-Prep and Kindergarten:
In Social Studies, the students will be learning about concepts of time (past, present and future), history and geography. In mathematics, the students will be learning about measuring objects by their various attributes such as length, height weight and volume.
Family Engagement Activity: A tradition is a way of doing things that has been passed down from older family members to younger family members. What is/are your family Thanksgiving traditions? Feel free to send pictures with the sheet that will be handed out.
Classroom Special Events: A Very Thankful Feast – to celebrate this time of giving and being thankful we will be having a feast on 11/22, please see posted sign up sheet.
