March Newsletter East Greenwich
Welcome to the month of March!
In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the week of 3/5-3/9, the classrooms from 3s through Kindergarten will be welcoming family members to come read a Dr. Seuss book to the class. If you would like to come read to your child’s class, please see your child’s teacher!
Lifetouch will be here on Monday, March 12 to take school spring pictures. Picture forms will be put in your child’s folders, please let me know if you need another one.
Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Jessica in 3s on 3/3 and Ms. Maria in toddlers on 3/17. Happy Birthday!!!
Infants:
This month we will continue to concentrate on fine and gross motor skills. We will be working with helping each baby sit up, pull up and also help strengthening neck muscles with tummy time and encourage the older babies to reach, grab and crawl.
Classroom Special Events: Show your Patty’s pride and wear green on March 16.
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a family photo so we can create family trees with the babies.
Happy 1st birthday to… Hadley!
Crawlers:
This month we will be working on engaging in positive relationships and developing trust. Children will also be given the opportunity to develop the confidence to complete an action successfully or independently.
Family Engagement Activity: Please send in your favorite Dr. Seuss book for the teachers to read to the class.
Classroom Special Events: Birthday Party for Dr. Seuss- March 2nd- we will be having green eggs and ham! March 16- celebrating St. Patrick’s day- wear green.
Young Toddlers:
This month we will be working on Social/Emotional Se1: relationships with others. We will encourage the new children in the classroom to feel comfortable in their new surroundings and make new friends. In physical health and motor development: children will develop self help skills such as washing their hands before each meal, and using utensils while eating.
Classroom Special Event: Wear green on March 16 for St. Patrick’s day!
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a picture of your family for our family board.

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:
This month we will be exploring different science experiments and exploring living, non-living, man-made or natural objects with our senses. In language development: we will be encouraging the children to build on their vocabulary and learn to describe the different activities we will be exploring.
Family Engagement Activity: Green food taste test! Please see us to sign up for a green food item for the children to try.
Classroom Special Events: Wear something green on 3/16 for St. Patrick’s day!

3s:
This month we will be exploring creative arts. In science will also be exploring the characteristics of objects that are man-made or naturally occurring in the water table and while we create our truffle forest.
Classroom Special Events: We will be making green kinetic sand for the classroom!
Family Engagement Activity: Parents will be invited to read a Dr. Seuss book in the classroom. Please come see me if you would like to read.
4s:
Social-Emotional- children will be encouraged to engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children (sharing and taking turns using materials). Social -Emotional- self regulation- children develop the ability to express and regulate their own emotions. (regulate impulses in certain situations and being able to express emotions using words, signs or other communication methods).
Family Engagement Activity: With St. Patrick’s day approaching, wouldn’t it be fun to see if we can catch a Leprechaun? Your child along with help from family members will create a trap and bring it to school on March 14. Instructions will be sent home by 3/2/18.
Classroom Special Events: Wear green on 3/16.

Pre-K:
This month we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We will be creating fun crafts such as truffle trees and begin learning about words that rhyme. We will also learn what “construction” means and what “transportation” means. We will construct a building using lincoln logs and wooden blocks. In science, we will also learn what makes things go and how gravity helps
Family Engagement: A new Family Activity Bag will be going around. This time the theme will be spring.
Classroom Special Events The Pre-K class will be putting on a short play based on the book “What a Wonderful Book”, date and time to be determined.

K-Prep and Kindergarten:
This month we will be experimenting and participating in the creative arts. In Emergent Writing- children learn writing skills and show knowledge of writing conventions they demonstrate an understand of writing as a means of communication.
Family Engagement Activity: Read Across America week is the week of 2/26-3/2. Please send in any of your child’s favorite Dr.Seuss books (must be written by Dr. Seuss) throughout the month as we will be trying to keep count of how many Dr. Seuss books we can read!
Classroom Special Events: Seuss-A-Palooza! A week of Dr Seuss themed activities. Please see our list for special themes of the day. St. Patrick’s day party is on 3/16. After dealing with the shenanigans of the mischievous leprechaun, we will be having a green themed party. Please have your child wear green and check our sign up list.
