June 2018 Newsletter – East Greenwich
Welcome to the month of June!
Special Notices:
Due to the summer weather being upon us, please make sure your child’s extra clothes that stays in their cubbies, is weather appropriate. We have also sent out a notice to all our families, as a reminder to please apply sun-block to your child in the morning and we will re-apply in the afternoon.
Our big event this month is our Pre-K, K-prep and Kindergarten graduation! Graduation will be on Thursday, June 21st. It will be held at Impossible Dreams located on 575 Centerville Rd. #4 in Warwick RI 02886. The ceremony will be indoors and it will start at 10:00am. We are asking that all of the children arrive by 9:45 the latest. Each child will need transportation to and from graduation. More information regarding this big day, will soon be posted. Our other big event this month is the “Big Summer Move” which will be on Monday, June 25th. On this day many children will be moving up to their new rooms. If you are not sure if your child is moving to a new room on that day, please ask your child’s lead teacher. This day is also the start of our summer program. Our summer program will include fun weekly summer themes, water play days, and fun summer field trips or indoor events. All of the classrooms do participate in water play. Please bring in a bathing suit, towel, sun-block and water shoes or old sneakers for your child.
Be on the lookout for the permission slip with a list of upcoming special events. Please let us know which events your child can participate in.
Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Chelsea in Infants on 6/5, Ms. Angela in Crawlers on 6/11, Ms. Stephanie in Older Toddlers on 6/22 and Ms. Vanessa in Infants on 6/23!! Happy Birthday to you all!!
Also, to all our amazing dads, Happy Father’s Day on June 17th!!
Infants:
Opening Info: This month we will continue to work on cognitive development. The teachers will encourage the children to imitate actions performed by others, for example, ” lets clap our hands, touch your nose, grab the toy”. In addition, we will also work on gross motor development by helping them increase their strength and coordination. Consequently, we will be doing this with more activities on the play mats and outdoors.
Classroom Special Events: Special projects for Father’s day.
Happy birthday : Happy 1st birthday to Kevin C. on June 10 and Ella L. on June 11!!!!
Crawlers:
Opening Info: This month we will continue to work on developing small muscle control, strength and coordination. We will be doing this by encouraging the children to learn to feed themselves. We will also be working on developing large muscle control, strength and coordination by more out door activities and working with children that are learning to walk.
Classroom Special Events: Popsicle Fridays. We will be having Popsicle Fridays during the summer, with parent’s permission.
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a picture of dad and child for a special Father’s day project.
Young Toddlers:
Opening Info: This month we will be concentrating on language and literacy. We will be working on expanding the children’s vocabulary and introducing more books. We will also be working on social emotional growth. The children will be encouraged to share toys with their friends.
Family Engagement Activity: Bring in a picture of your family doing a fun summer activity.
Happy birthday to: Olivia L on 6/10, Michael G. on 6/12, Brock R. on 6/20 and Aiden G. on 6/21. Happy birthday!!
Older Toddlers:
Opening Info: This month we will be concentrating on fine motor development. We will have the children develop writing and drawing skills by holding pencils with thumb and finger grip, making horizontal, vertical, and circles, string beads, puzzles and scissors. In social and emotional development the children will be encouraged to engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children. We are working on children taking care of each other and helping each other, for example; give a hug when a friend is sad, help a friend with a they fall, and so on.
Classroom Special Events: June 15th we will be having a pizza and cupcake party thanks to Mason’s parents who want to celebrate his birthday with the class.
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a picture of your family doing a summer activity such as at the beach, watching a parade, at a baseball game, just to name a few.

3’s Preschool:
Opening Info: This month we will be experimenting and participating in the creative arts. In gross motor development children will develop large-muscle control strength and coordination, we will be doing this with different out door activities.
Classroom Special Events: Father’s day desserts on 6/15 at 3:00
Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a rock for your child to paint as we will be learning about rocks in June.

4’s Preschool:
Opening Info This month our learning goal will be phonological awareness. Children will be able to notice and discriminate the sound of spoken language. Our second learning goal will be emergent writing. Children learn writing skills and show knowledge of writing conventions. They will demonstrate an understanding of writing as a means of communication.
Classroom Special Events: Dads are welcome to join us for a Father’s day celebration. Donuts with Dad on 6/15/18 from 8:45 to 9:15.
Family Engagement Activity: Create an ocean collage- use shells, pebbles and any other materials you would like. Bring it in by June 14 to share with the class.

Pre-K :
Opening Info: This month we will be learning about space and other planets. We will also be using observable characteristics to describe and categorize objects and materials based on differences or similarities. This month we will also be reviewing what we have learned through out the year and preparing for Graduation.
Classroom Special Events: Father’s day Tournament, Thursday, June 17th at 3:00
Graduation, June 21, time: 10:00 at Impossible Dream.
Family Engagement Activity: Your child will be picking a planet he/she would like to visit. With your help, they will answer if the planet is hot or cold, big or small and what it is made of.

Kindergarten and K-Prep:
Opening Info: Cognitive Development: Logic and Reasoning- children apply strategies and draw upon past knowledge and experiences to meet goals and solve problems. In Literacy- Emergent Writing- children use writing to represent and communicate ideas in a variety of contexts. They use a combination of drawing, dictating and writing to communicate. The children will participate in shared writing.
Classroom Special Events: 6/15- Father’s day Ice Cream Social and Field Day! Join us for some outdoor fun and treats as we celebrate our awesome fathers. 6/18- Countdown to graduation. As we count down the last ten days of school, we will be having a surprise activity each day! 6/18- End of the year Pizza Party!! To applaud our class accomplishments this year, we will be having a pizza party. No lunch is needed on this day, just a sign up to bring a goodie to share. 6/21- Graduation- June 21 at 10:00, located at the Impossible Dream
Family Engagement Activity: All About Me Posters- bring in a poster decorated with your child’s favorite color, food, activities, as well as family information. We will be presenting them during the last week of school.
