Infants-
This month we will focus on mathematics as the babies learn to identify shapes and their attributes, solve problems using shapes, and explore the positions of objects in space. We will practice tracking objects using the eyes and head, and explore distances by reaching for toys, cups, food, etc. The babies will also demonstrate interest in themselves in a mirror and looking at their own hands and feet.
Family Engagement- Please bring in your family photos for our snowflake project!
Happy Birthday to… Ms. Courtney 1/11 and Remy 1/14.
Crawlers-
This month we will focus on literacy as the children work on recognizing and identifying letters and make letter-sound connections. They will be able to identify and point to pictures in a book. We will also focus on using increasingly complex vocabulary, grammar and syntax to express thoughts and needs.
Family Engagement- Please share your favorite book with our class on 1/18! We will also be having a classroom breakfast and pajama party on this day! Look for a sign-up sheet on our refrigerator!
Young Toddlers-
This month we will focus on physical health and motor development. We will encourage them to participate in active physical play with a teacher. We will also focus on language development as we focus on simple rules of the classroom.
Family Engagement- This month we will send home a snowman for you to decorate with your child! Please return so we can display in our classroom!
Happy Birthday to… Frankie 1/13
Older Toddlers-
This month we will focus on science. We will be learning about hibernation and arctic animals, what animals live in the cold weather, and which ones hibernate. We will also work on language development and being able to respond to questions and express their thoughts and ideas.
Family Engagement- This month we will be sending home our Rhode Island Early Learning Standards book bag for parents to see examples of why we do what we do in our classroom each day.
Happy Birthday to… Ezio 1/20
3’s Preschool-
This month we will focus on cognitive development. The children will use objects in new ways to solve a problem or meet a goal. They will be experimenting with play-doh, using a variety of items as tools to create new objects. We will also focus on language development as the children use simple adverbs (quickly, slowly, etc.) in statements. This will build children’s descriptive vocabulary skills.
Family Engagement- This month we will be building a family wall at the entrance of the classroom. We will be asking families for pictures to display.
4’s Pre-K-
This month our focus will be science. We will be learning about animals that hibernate and animals that live in Polar Regions. The children will be exploring the characteristics of these animals and comparing and contrasting them. We will also be learning about snow and ice and learning about the water cycle. Through a few different experiments, the children will learn to plan for and carry out investigations and to collect, evaluate and communicate information.
Family Engagement- We will have a math activity for family engagement this month. The children will be polling their family and friends to find out what their favorite winter activities are. Please return this activity to school by Wednesday, January 16th.
Classroom Special Events
1/29- Mrs. Frost $5 per child
Mid-year progress reports will be completed this month. Parent/ Teacher conferences will begin on Tuesday, January 22nd. I will be sending home a copy of your child’s progress report and pre-conference request forms the week of 1/14.
K-Prep-
This month we will focus on literacy. The children will show interest and an understanding of a variety of literacy experiences. We will focus on this goal this month to expose the children to many literacy forms and help them make personal connections to print. We will also focus on alphabet knowledge as part of finishing our letter study and move forward with beginning reading skills.
Family Engagement- Play various alphabet games with your child regularly. When in the car, play I SPY for different letters on store signs and road sign, asking them to tell what sound each letter makes. This activity not only helps reinforce letter recognition, but it also makes use of the alphabet more meaningful to the child because they are relating to it in context.
