K-Prep
This month we will focus on phonological awareness as the children notice and discriminate the sounds of spoken language. This helps build an understanding of how language works and that they can manipulate letters to make new sounds and words. We will also focus on cognitive development as the children apply strategies and draw upon past knowledge and experiences to meet goals and solve problems. This helps children use their “schema” of ideas to help them solve new problems and use their prior knowledge to explore new ideas about the world around them.
Family Engagement- Visit a local library and find some rhyming books to read with your child. Dr. Suess is a great source for rhyming words. Play a rhyming word game with your child. Ask him or her to name some words that rhyme with cat or train. See how many you both can come up with.
Special Events- On 2/14, we will be having our annual Valentine’s Day Party and card Exchange! I will be sending home a class list and more details on Monday, February 4th!
