December 2019 – Newsletter – Smithfield
Welcome to the month of December!
The center will be closed on Tuesday December 24 and Wednesday December 25th for the celebration of Christmas. We are also closed for New Years on December 31st. On behalf of everyone here at Stork’s Nest in Smithfield, we would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday!

Infant Room A and B:

Family Engagement:
Making Christmas presents. We are having a Christmas card exchange and we will be passing out a list with the children’s names the 1st week of December.

Infant Room C:
Children will engage in structured and unstructured physical activity. Children learn to order and sort objects by common attributes to identify patterns, and to predict the next sequence in a pattern.

Children’s skills increase in filtering impulses and sustaining attention on a task.

Family Engagement:
Book Exchange- bring in a wrapped book for a gift exchange. Please bring in by December 19th.
Classroom Special Events:
Holiday Party- Friday December 20th
Younger Toddler Room A:
Indicate their dislike by saying “no” or through some other method (e.g. shaking their head or turning their head/body away)
Children will understand more words than they can say.

Our Holiday Party will be December 20th during the day. A sign up sheet will be posted for families to bring items in.
Student/Staff Birthdays:
We have no classroom birthdays this month.
Younger Toddler Room B:
Children engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children. We will be playing group games to get the children to engage with their peers. Children develop number recognition and counting skills and learn the relationship between numbers and the quantity they represent. We will be using the words “more” and “all gone”.

Children will learn to assess the ability to match simple geometric forms that have the same size and orientation.
Children will identify themselves as members of a classroom and participate as active members in this community.

Send in your favorite snack for our Holiday Party.

Three’s Room:
Children will develop small muscle control, strength, and coordination.
Also, children will gain awareness of how to relate to their family and community, understand social roles and responsibilities, and recognize and respect similarities and differences in people.
Family Engagement:
We are asking that each child bring in a homemade ornament to hang on the Christmas tree on our bulletin board. Please have ornaments in by December 7th.

Pre-K Classroom:
Young children will attend to understand and respond to increasingly complex language, demonstrate an understanding of conversation by responding to questions and prompts. The children will learn about winter activities and discuss their favorite activity. Knowledge of science concepts, observe the similarities and differences. Children will learn about the different bears and animals that hibernate and ones that do not.
