Welcome to the month of December!!!
Special Notices:
This month we have a lot to celebrate!
I want to thank all of the families that donated canned goods for the RI Community Food Bank. The donated food will be given to families in need during the December holidays.
This month we will be closed on Tues. Dec. 24 and Wed. Dec. 25th for the Christmas Holiday. We will also be closed on Tues. 12/31 and Wed. Jan. 1st for New Years Eve and New Years day. Friendly reminder, we will be closing at 5:00 instead of 5:30 on Friday, Dec. 20th please plan accordingly.
We will be having our Holiday Given Tree set up in the main foyer. The gifts will be given to the Adopt RI center. These are children that are in state care waiting to be adopted. Please feel free to stop by and collect a tag with a child’s name and age. On the back of the tag, will be a specific toy or item this child is hoping to get for the Holidays. All gifts need to be brought in by Friday, 12/13. Please bring it unwrapped and with the tag on it. We want to make sure the children get in time for the Holidays.
Santa will be visiting Stork’s Nest on Monday, 12/16 at 10:30.
Celebrating a birthday this month is Nurse Cara on 12/16 and Ms. Hollie our floater on 12/18!! Happy birthday!!

This month we will work on the babies becoming more socially interactive and competent by developing trust, love and security with primary caregivers. In gross motor development, children start to develop traveling skills. Caregiver will help infant go between lying on the floor, sitting, balancing on hands and knees, crawling and taking first steps.
Family Engagement Activity:
Take a holiday family photo and bring them in for our family board.
Classroom Special Events:
Holiday pajama party on 12/23. Wear your favorite holiday pajamas.
Crawlers: Teachers: Ms. Angela, Ms. Stephanie, Ms. Felicia and Ms. Justine
This month we will be working on large muscle control, strength and coordination. We will also continue to work on small muscle control and fine motor skills.
Family Engagement Activity:
Our room will be collecting gloves, mittens or hats to be donated to needy children and families.
Classroom Special Activity:
Our Holiday Party will be on Friday, Dec. 20th.
Toddlers: Teachers: Ms. Tara, Ms. Maria, Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Teyana.
This month we will continue to work on our gross motor. We will practice this by jumping with our feet apart and jumping over small objects. We will also work on our fine motor. We will encourage this by doing puzzles and playing with musical instruments.
Family Engagement Activity:
Read a bed time story to your child or sing one of the songs we sing at school – they will show you how we do it.
Classroom Special Events:
Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 23. Celebrating a birthday this month is Teddy on 12/29! Happy birthday!!!
Older Toddlers/Young 3s: Teachers: Ms. Gina, Ms. Janessa and Ms. Erin.
This month in physical health and motor development, children will be working on developing small muscle control, strength and coordination. We will be doing this by turning knobs, removing lids, ripping papers and so on. All of these activities help children to be able to open their own snacks and containers, which help improve their self help skills. In social and emotional development will work on children being able to engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children. We will encourage children to build relationships through play and show empathy towards their friends.
Family Engagement Activity:
We will be sending home an empty tree and we are asking you to decorate the tree with beautiful “junk” such as stickers, pompoms, coloring, pictures…etc. These trees will be for our Winter Forest Board.

This month we will continue to work on social and emotional development and self regulation. Children develop the ability to control impulses. In mathematics- children develop number recognition and counting skills and learn the relationship between numbers and the quantity they represent.
Family Engagement Activity:
Please take some photos of your child and family celebration this holiday season. Make a small collage and bring it in to share on the week of December 16-20th.

Young 4s: Teachers: Ms. Dot and Ms. Mandy.
In social studies we will be learning about holidays around the world and how they are celebrated. We will compare and contrast any similarities to our own holiday traditions. In creative arts we will work on our appreciation of the musical arts with learning new songs and using instruments to make music.
Family Engagement Activity:
Taking from our learning unit on holidays around the World, your child will bring home their Gingerbread Man. Please send in photos of your child’s creation doing holiday activities with your family and write a note letting us know of any traditions you may follow and where they may have originated. Please have them back by Friday Dec. 13th.
Classroom Special Events:
Dec 12/23- Holiday pajama party and card swap. Ms. Mandy and I wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season.
Pre-K: Teachers: Ms. Brenda and Ms. Hannah.
This month we will continue to work on sense of self: Children develop an awareness of themselves as an individual with unique thoughts, feelings and perspectives. In history and geography – children will understand concept of time (past, present and future) and place.
Family Engagement Activity:
Families can write about their family holiday traditions or speak to Ms. Brenda about coming in to share with the class your family tradition (details to follow)
Classroom Special Events:
Parents will be invited to a Pre-K Christmas concert! Date and time will soon be posted. 12/23- children can come to school in their pajamas, as we will celebrate the holiday season with cookies, milk and a card exchange.
K-Prep/Kindergarten: Teachers: Ms. Tynicka and Ms. Kaitlyn
This month in social studies will be working on gaining awareness of how they relate to their families and community, understand social roles and responsibilities and recognize and respect similarities and differences in people. In mathematics, the children will learn to measure objects by their various attributes and to use differences in attributes to make comparisons.
Family Engagement Activity:
Hibernation Research Question- your child will be given a question pertaining to hibernation that they will need your help researching for a class presentation. More information will be passed out as we approach the end of the month.
Classroom Special Events:
12/23- Polar Express! Wear your pjs and bring in your favorite soft teddy or lovie. We will also be tasting hot cocoa with marshmallows and watching the Polar Express movie. Holiday Party will be on 12/20. Happy birthday to Michaela on 12/2 and Abigale on 12/11!!!
